Sonnet 116 ~ Love Story

Sonnet 116 - Love Story

histoire d'amour

There is no reasoning why two of exact mind and soul shall not become one.

Love is not love that succumbs to the challenges,

Or descends amongst the changing tides as heavy waters, distance and time take their toll,

But surmounts headstrong; treading water, remaining afloat amidst betrayal of adulterated wrongs.

No, love is a lighthouse, a rock of ages.

That admits the breakers and weathers the hard hitting storms, unshaken by natures furry.

It is the light that guides the rolling stone, carries through and brings one home.

Whose integrity and stance measure in abundance; but greatest significance forever unknown!

Love is not bemused by youthful splendor's ebb,

That changes direction as the shore descends and tides wither:

Love does not alter course set by clock, calendar or stars in passing sky,

But bears it out enduring all until the long end of endless night.

If it were not so; and I off beam proven otherwise,

I take back all I've ever professed (love wins); and no other has known this infinite love.
